As I write my 2012 goals, I thought I’d take a minute to figure out how I did in 2011. Looking back, I can say that I do feel better ending the year than I did starting it. But there’s a lot more to tackle in 2012!

Goals from 2011:

  • Start taking a daily multivitamin – started to right at the end. Guess that counts, right?
  • Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day – um, yeah…WAY short here. Probably more like 2-3 glasses per day.
  • Limit to only 2 cans of soda – right on! Sometimes none and made a more concerted effort to stick to diet. Probably still not the healthiest choice but I’ll save those 150+ calories any day.
  • Increase activity to 1000 calories burned per week – definitely had good intentions but derailed when work picked up. That being said, when the work hours exceed 70/week many things get derailed. And that’s the main challenge for 2012: finding ways to deal with a chaotic work schedule.
  • Eat at least 4 fruits/veggies – on the right track. One tip I recently saw in runners world was to make sure all food groups were on your meal plate. Makes sense but breakfast was one where it was usually carbs and dairy. Adding in fruit and eggs have been helpful.
  • Use a food diary to keep track of meals, eating patterns – I tend to use this less now, but it’s still been a tremendous tool along the way. I will continue to use it more when training is in full swing.
  • Other goals were a little more loosely defined, but I did manage to do four races this year and have lost about 10% of my total weight. As I think about the new year I feel blessed and grateful to be here with an amazing family, good job and endless possibilities in 2012.
